Application, Properties & Efficacy
Mideka Ximenia Oil provides protection and recovery from environmental stressors such as pollution and free radicals. The oil’s exceptionally powerful antioxidantproperties originate from the abundance of phytosterol content, including lupeol and β-amyrin, and β-sitosterol.
Mideka Ximenia Oil is bestowed with sizeable quantities of monoenoic acids, including ximenynic acid – that stimulate microcirculation (the blood circulation in the smallest blood vessels present within organ tissues i.e. skin). As a result, Mideka Ximenia Oil can be used for skin and hair follicle rejuvenation.
The oil’s tocotrienol content also promotes anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial activity.
Botanical and Traditional Context
Ximenia trees are semi-deciduous shrubs that are scattered around various low-altitude and grassland regions of Africa. The shrubs were originally named after the 17th century Spanish monk Franciso Ximenez, and are known among the locals as the ‘wild plum’ or ‘monkey plum’ tree.
The fruit of the Ximenia tree is a reddish-brown colour with white speckles and similar to the size of a plum. Cutting open the fruit reveals an edible pale orange pulp, and a soft, cream coloured seed that is large and rich in oil. The fruit ripens from May to July.
Ximenia oil has reportedly been used primarily as an emollient, conditioner, skin softener and in hair and body concoctions.
The word ‘mideka’ means to rejuvenate in the tribal regions of north-west Ethiopia.
